About

Uppsala International Short Film Festival is an annual festival hosted in Uppsala, Sweden since 1982. As of 2002 the winner of the award "Uppsala Grand Prix" and the winner of the Uppsala Film Jackdaw for Best Children's Film are eligible for an Academy Award nomination. The Uppsala International Short Film Festival, Sweden's premier arena for short film, shows more than 300 short films along with lectures and seminars that give an insight into Swedish film, culture and history. Swedish and international filmmakers and other professionals attend.

Since the festival is recognized by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences the winner of the International Competition and the National Competition may qualify for the short film Oscar®.

Awards

  • The Uppsala Grand Prix. The award goes to the director of the best film in the International Competition.  The festival is recognised by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences and the winner of the Grand Prix may qualify for the short films Oscar®;
  • The Uppsala Award in Memory of Ingmar Bergman (handed out by the Cultural Affairs Board in Uppsala). The award goes to a young and promising director who pushes the boundaries of film art. Nominations for the award are made by the festival;
  • The Audience Award. The award goes to the director of best film, as voted by the festival audience;
  • The films selected for the Children’s Film Competition compete for the award for the Best Children’s Film. All awards are subject to change without prior notice.

Rules

  • Short films of all genres with a running time of no more than 40 minutes are accepted for consideration,
  • Entries must have been produced 2023 or 2024.
  • Entry must be made via the online submission platform Shortfilmdepot.
  • All entries for the International Competition may be considered for the Children’s Film Festival and vice versa.
